Jordan first became interested in participating in the AIDS Walk five years ago. “He is just a very giving child”, said his mother. “When we go to Wendy’s or to the mall and he sees those collection boxes for diabetes or foster children he always asks for money to give, or gives his own money. He gives at church. He digs in his own pocket to give money to the homeless. He was all over the AIDS walk because he can really relate to this cause.”
When asked about living with HIV, Jordan, who is slightly learning disabled due to his fetal alcohol and drug exposure, shyly explains, “HIV and AIDS is a bad thing to have. You have to take a lot of medicines. And, if you don’t take your medicines, you can die.” He also is quick to say that “people always need to know that there is somebody who cares about them and will help to take care of them.”
This year, Jordan hopes to pass the $30,000 mark for fundraising. He has been among the top three fundraisers each year he has participated. He has been busy earning his own money to add to his total by recycling aluminum cans, printer cartridges and cell phones. He is still eager to flock your house with pink plastic flamingos and will accept a donation to move the flock to the yard of a friend or neighbor. And don’t be surprised if he simply calls or emails to ask you for a donation to help him reach his goal of becoming the number one fundraiser for AIDS WALK Charlotte so that he can help as many people as he can.
Yep...see him here on the same page as Sir Elton John, Alicia Keys and Annie Lennox...We are proud of Jordan and his efforts to raise both funds and awareness for HIV/AIDS. Send him a note of support if you can, as he has already begun his fundraising efforts for this year, with a lofty goal of raising $7,500.
Please share his fundraising link with friends, colleagues, family.
